Salonvironment Launches Biodegradable Lashes
“California” style + packaging
It’s April 2022 and we are introducing our first batch of our new biodegradable strip lashes! We want to tell you all about them from beginning to end about the love we’ve put in this process.
As I’ve seen many influencers and brands launching a new lash line every month (it seemed like) since 2020, I thought to myself,
“how hard can it be to launch my own?”
It wasn’t, until I realized I didn’t want to retail your typical lashes.
I know I wanted specific designs for this lash line so it was different than others such as:
Vegan
Cruelty-Free
Plant-based
Responsibly packaged
Sourced from an ethical manufacturer
Keeping our carbon footprint low
Bring awareness for impactful change in the beauty industry
That’s what made the journey to creating these lashes… an interesting one, but one that brings hope that it is possible to be a part of a more impactful beauty industry. We haven’t perfected our process yet of meeting all of our criteria, but we believe it’s important to find a solid jump off point with an end goal to work towards.
What makes our lashes different:
Our lashes are produced with a composition of 90% plant fiber and are not tested on animals. This means they are vegan, cruelty free, and (obviously) plant based! They can be worn up to 30 wears and will start to self-degrade once you bury them in soil after 100 days (so yes, you can throw them in your home compost or even place them in your potted plant).
Our packaging:
Made from cardboard and paper! Easily recyclable. It does have foil lettering on it which usually isn’t a big deal for recyclers but please ask your local recycle center to make sure they do. If they don’t then cut the top off the box and the ribbon. Volia!
Naming our lashes:
The lashes are named after states/cities we want to highlight because they are taking big steps in policy change for our country that supports a better recycling system.
For our current lashes, we named them after California and Maine.
California recently passed a bill that will prohibit manufacturers from putting the recycling symbol on things that are not recyclable, which will ruin a perfectly good bunch of recyclables and end up putting the contaminated load in a landfill. Which also means they can’t lie to the public.
Maine’s new recycling law makes waste producers pay, which truly warms my heart. It takes the misplaced responsibility on consumers that have to dispose of the trash back on the manufacturer themselves.
We want to shine a light on how the United States are solving problems in the neglected recycling industry and work towards a cleaner country.
Our Manufacturers:
It was difficult to find a company that had the same idea of what we were looking for, which made it all the more wonderful when we found them. Our lashes are created by a growing, sustainable manufacturer that is women and family owned with ethical work practices that protect their workers. They offered and delivered everything that was dreamt up. However, the only issue is that they are located in China. From a carbon footprint standpoint it’s not the best, but we are learning, growing, and happy to work with a company that mimics our values!
As much as we are a company that focuses on national solutions and education, having retail products for us is important so we can continue to grow and help solve some of these problems. Plus, we want to show that being environmentally responsible can also be physically sexy.
We will be opening up for orders in April, but we’d also love to be able to distribute to retailers so we can keep our carbon footprint as low as possible. If you’re interested in doing so, send us an inquiry.
Thank you, everyone, for the support we have had so far. We are so excited to share these lashes with you!
