National & Global Petitions We’ve Followed - You Should Too

“Building a Clean Energy Future” public talk, Sept. 2023

Besides on all the projects we have done, we always try to stay up to date with what’s going on in federal and global politics/regulations. We are big believers in updating regulations to raise the current baseline (which is, frankly, at a -10).

Our current practices both nationally and globally are all over the place. There is no solid plan of how we can all work together to create a world that is cleaner. While there are numerous different seminars and talks to do so - no one is on the same level of understanding with what every country/region needs or wants. This is why regulation is good; it establishes boundaries, creates better communication, and places accountability on where it needs to be.

Contrary to popular belief, individuals do have a say in what kind of world they want to live in. The more our voices can come together on different topics - the louder they are and the more action can be done. Especially when you have an audience, you can use that platform for good.

We wanted to share some of the petitions and causes that we’ve followed since the beginning of our business in late 2020/early 2021 to bring awareness of these and spotlight them to our audience

We also want to thank Citizens’ Climate Lobby for being a huge catalyst in this. They have been helping us learn more about how to be involved in government at a grassroots/grasstops level also since early 2021.

Supporting The Clean Air Energy Act, April 2023

The CROWN Act

In 2019, Dove and the CROWN Coalition collaborated with then State Senator Holly J. Mitchell of California to establish the CROWN Act. This legislation aims to safeguard individuals from discrimination based on race-related hairstyles, expanding legal protection to encompass hair texture and protective styles like braids, locs, twists, and knots in both workplace and public school settings. This law has been passed in 23 states, with 27 more to go. The following states include: Washington, Oregon, Nevada, California, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Alaska, Arkansas, Nebraska, Minnesota, Louisiana, Tennessee, Illinois, Michigan, Virginia, New York, Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland.

The Safer Beauty Bill Package

This group of bills addresses the lack of safety regulations that have been ignored for almost 80 years. The bills include making sure cosmetics are clear of 11 of the most toxic chemicals, defend the health of WOC and salon workers, reveal fragrance ingredients, and ensure supply chain transparency. Currently, the Modernization of Cosmetics Regulations Act of 2022 represents the biggest step forward for cosmetics regulation since 1938.

Climate Action Campaign

This campaign showcases broad public support for a strong Cut Climate Pollution Plan. This includes anything from shutting down power plants, pushing for updated infrastructure, supporting the Clean Air Act, and really anything that helps make peoples’ environments cleaner (and healthier). We focus on Michigan wins, just like the historic Clean Energy & Climate Action bill Gov. Gretchen Whitmer just passed this month.

A New Global Treaty on Plastic Pollution

A building group of support for a Treaty on Plastics. This global call from nations all over to take responsibility for plastics began talks at UNEA-5, where some of the bigger nations compromised on plans on how to address the plastic pollution problem.
(here are our thoughts/facts about UNEA 5.2,)
From the creation, to life cycle analysis, and how to deal with the pollution that already exists. The regions involved have a long ways to go on how to address this, especially considering everyone has different infrastructure in their countries - but these talks are also to see where communities need help and how others can help them. The next round of discussions will take place at UNEA-6.

Fossil Fuel Treaty

With these global talks and agreements on climate action (COP, Paris Agreement Treaty, UNEA), Fossil Fuels are usually missing from the discussion. Countries, nations, individuals, and communities are finally pushing the attention on the negative impacts of fossil fuels and what steps to take next. This will take center stage at COP28 to start.

The Energy Innovation and Carbon Divided Act

The Energy Innovation and Carbon Divided Act can be a huge part of cutting carbon emissions by taxing corporations by how much carbon they use, this is also known as “pollution pay”. This makes corporations rethink how they operate and switch to more energy efficient options, creating less wasteful practices.  We have been involved with talking to local officials in my area to sign on support of this act.

These are just a few of the more well known matters we follow. If you weren’t familiar with them before, now you can be!
If you’re looking to get more involved in regulations, these are some good ones to follow. Click their links to sign their petitions, join their treaty force, and/or share them to your audience.
