Donation Impact Report: Summer 2024
June 2nd Product Swap at Nomad Beauty Therapy
We’ve been doing something a little different this summer.
A little background for those who are new: I’ve been collecting and recycling salon waste for 5 years now, I usually have summer events that collect salon materials for me to recycle. Items such as hair care bottles, hair foil, color tubes, empty aerosols, and so on.
This summer we took a different approach to getting rid of beauty waste, before these items could be considered “waste”…
We love the saying,
“One man’s trash its another one’s treasure”
and we took it personally!
So instead, we found ourselves creating new partnerships and a bunch of beauty items.
We focused on collecting beauty products and beauty professional tools to donate and give them a second life.
This is what we did -
Beauty Products:
We co-hosted 3 Product Swap events with our friends
From these events, we saved a guess-timation of 60-100 hair, skin, and personal care products.
When other participants were done swapping these products, the leftover products were donated to:
And my local Buy Nothing Facebook group for beauty products that didn’t fit the donation guidelines
Any products that were too old or seemed unsanitary will be taken to ERG Environmental for responsible disposal.
Professional Tools:
We partnered with R&R Headlabs, who are giving barbers that have been previously incarcerated in Colorado a second chance to give back to their community by providing them a space to work without judgment of their past.
R&R also works with the state to accept donations of gently-used or new professional beauty/barbering tools to those who are starting out!
We have collected items from our Product Swap with Kismet Studio and our partnership with Refill Emporium.
Out of 56 items, 41 of those items were sent to R&R and the other will be given to other beauty professionals who could use those tools.
(We are still on the look out for other opportunities to donate cosmetology tools to)
All the beauty tool donations that we collected this summer
While the summer is almost over, we are looking forward to the rest of the year to see how we can continue keeping items out of landfills, give items a second life, and continue circularity that is becoming normalized in the beauty industry.
We are always looking for new partnerships, if you are interested in becoming a part of the solution, please reach out to hannah@salonvironment.com!
